Farmers’ Market BLOG – May 2016

Market traders across the country are relishing the recent sunshine after a long winter of wind and rain and none more so than those who attend Stapleford Farmers’ Market where it seems to rain heavily every time we come to town!

Whatever the weather though, we all agree the community spirit in Stapleford never fails to impress and our traders enjoy catching up with the locals on a monthly basis. We have even noticed regulars returning from towns further afield which is great news for the many Stapleford independent shops and services as well as us. This weekend we’re hoping to learn more about the town’s latest venture too – Harlow’s Bistro.  The Mayor of Stapleford presided over the opening ceremony and he should know a thing or two about good food as he’s a regular at our farmers’ market! Best of luck to Emma and her team.

For May’s market we were delighted to introduce you to a new trader of our own too! Andy, a farmer from nearby Lowdham, joined and can tell you more about the herds of rare breed farm animals he raises including Gloucester Old Spot pigs and Dexter cattle.

And what better way to showcase his products – and celebrate the better weather – than to roll out the BBQ? So, if you fancy something tasty for breakfast or lunch pop down to Walter Parker VC Memorial Square pop down to the June market between 9am and 2pm on Saturday 4th June, where Andy will have it fired up ready and waiting for you. Don’t forget you can also pick up a pie from Brockleby’s and a homemade cake from Sue. That’s Sunday lunch sorted too!

Hope to see you on June 4th,
