Free Wi-Fi in Stapleford a Step Closer

Thanks to the Stapleford Town Team FREE WiFi for Stapleford Town Centre is one step closer to becoming a reality!

Following a visit from retail expert Bill Grimsey in 2015, the Stapleford Town Team put together a wish list of initiatives that could improve Stapleford’s high street. One of the team’s desires was to provide free to use WiFi access in the town centre.

Following several months of research and contact with companies that provide outdoor WiFi networks, the findings were discussed at the Jobs and Economy Committee meeting at Broxtowe Borough Council on Thursday 10th November 2016, where it was agreed that Officers could now put out a tender for a network provider.

A full report will then be taken back to the next committee meeting in early 2017, at which time further details will be discussed and a vote on the proposals could take place to install the Free WiFi network in Stapleford Town Centre.

At the Committee meeting both the Chairman Councillor Tony Harper and Vice Chair Councillor Mel Crow spoke very highly of the presentation they received from the Chair of the Stapleford Town Team and owner of Tailored To You, Mrs Amy Davis. Amy had put together a very informative presentation and explained the many benefits of having Free WiFi in Stapleford, not only for the businesses on the High Street but also for people visiting our great High Street.

Councillor Richard MacRae has said he is excited at the prospect of Stapleford being used to pilot this project and hopes it can then be rolled out across other areas of Broxtowe and looks forward to reading the report put together for the next meeting on 26th January 2017.
